Today I want to share with you an interesting article I have just come across with. The article deals with some islanders living in the North Coast of Australia who have filed a court claim against the Australian government for not taking sufficient actions to prevent climate change from harming their local area and, thus, their living.
What is interesting is that some years ago the environmental group Ugenda Foundation did the same against the government of the Netherlands for not doing enough to protect Dutch citizens from climate change, and the Dutch Supreme Court finally ruled that the goverment had to cut carbon emissions faster than planned. According to the Suprome court, the government can be held legally accountable for not taking enough actions to stop a forseeable harmful situation.
